Common names:   Haritaki, Hirada, 

Haritaki is the main ingredient in the Ayurvedic formulation ‘Triphala' which is used for kidney and liver dysfunctions. The dried fruit is used in Ayurveda as a purported antitussive, cardiotonic, homeostatic, diuretic, and laxative. The Haritaki tree is found frequently in moist deciduous or dry deciduous forests of Northern Western Ghats. Fruits were traditionally collected by local communities to be supplied to Indian pharmaceutical companies since time immemorial.
